Lose yourself to find yourself

è cosi che mi voglio presentare e presentare i miei lavori, riprendendo il titolo da un mio progetto di fashion design, il progetto origini.

Sono Gaia e mi sono persa tante volte in questi miei 24 anni e oggi posso affermare con certezza di essermi finalmente ritrovata una volta per tutte, quando hai una passione tutte le strade ti portano a quella, almeno cosi è stato per me.

Nel mio percorso ho cambiato tante volte rotta, sono partita da un istituto tecnico agrario fino ad essere catapultata per vie traverse ad un’università di moda.

Quest’ultimo atto mi ha fatto capire qual è il mio posto nel mondo e cosa voglio veramente fare.

Mi sono formata come designer con una mia personale visione della moda e del contemporaneo, esplorando e osando con forme e soprattutto materiali, proprio come ho fatto nel progetto 

“7YRS 079 DAY 21 : 00 : 42”.

Ebbene si non scelsi di chiamare il progetto con un nome orecchiabile ma bensì scelsi una data o meglio un countdown inquietante, infatti ciò rappresenta il tempo che ci resta prima di superare il punto di non ritorno, tempo scandito dall’orologio installato in pieno centro a Manhattan.

Con queste premesse il progetto si impegnava a realizzare una collezione utilizzando materiali sostenibili.

Galletto fu questo progetto, che grazie alla ricerca approfondita sui materiali e curiosando qua e la scoprii un mondo incredibilmente affascinate, e materiali incredibili come “Biogarment” un biotessile vivente filato con alghe e nanopolimeri che attraverso la fotosintesi, rimuovono le tossine nocive nella nostra aria, e molti molti altri.

Voglio spende due parole anche per il progetto che mi ha impegnato maggiormente e che è stata per me la ciliegina finale del mio percorso di studi il progetto “Manifesto 01000111 01000010” non che il mio progetto di tesi.

La collezione si snoda sul concetto di Bellezza Mostruosa, queste due parole così ossidriche, che sembrano quasi respingersi invece insieme formano un incastro perfetto.

Dando origine ad una estetica nuova, alterata, dove le linee classiche e ordinate sono sostituite da volumi stropicciati, maleducati che invadono lo spazio senza chiedere permesso.

Con un approccio molto dadaista mi sono divertita a dare nuove funzioni alle cose, ai capi, per esempio ci sono ginocchiere che perdono la loro funzione di protezione diventando un accessorio o ancora canottiere che non vendono più indossate ma che una volta trattata con una gomma naturale, la quale ne conferisce un aspetto stropicciato, diventano la chiusura di una giacca.

Giocando così con il concetto di perdita di riconoscibilità, ovvero il distacco da una convenzionale funzione a favore di una totalmente nuova.

Ed  proprio con quest’ultimo progetto che il mio portfolio inizia, quindi dopo questo breve accenno non mi resta che augurarvi una buona visione.

This is how I want to present and present my works, taking back the title from my project of fashion design, and the project’s origins.

I’m Gaia and I’ve been lost many times in my 24 years and today I can say with certainty that I finally found myself once and for all, when you have a passion all the roads lead you to that, at least so it was for me.

In my journey I changed routes many times, I started from a technical agricultural institute to be catapulted through the streets to a fashion university.

This last act made me understand my place in the world and what I really want to do.

I trained as a designer with a personal vision of fashion and contemporary, exploring and daring with shapes and above all materials, just as I did in the project “7YRS 079 DAY 21 : 00 : 42”.

Well, I didn’t choose to call the project a catchy name but I chose a date or rather a disturbing countdown, in fact, this represents the time that we have before passing the point of no return, time scanned by the clock installed in the center of Manhattan.

With these premises, the project was committed to creating a collection using sustainable materials.

Galletto was this project, that thanks to the in-depth research on materials and browsing here and discovered an incredibly fascinating world, and incredible materials like “Biogarment” a living bio textile yarn with algae and nanopolymers that through photosynthesis, remove harmful toxins in our air, and many many more.

I want to spend two words also for the project that has engaged me more and that was for me the final icing of my path of studies the project “Manifesto 01000111 01000010” not that my thesis project.

The collection unfolds on the concept of Monstrous Beauty, these two words so oxydric, that seem almost to reject together instead form a perfect joint.

Giving rise to a new, altered aesthetic, where the classic and ordered lines are replaced by wrinkled, rude volumes that invade the space without asking permission. 

 With a very dadaist approach I had fun giving new functions to things, to the garments, for example, there are knee pads that lose their protective function becoming an accessory or even tank tops that no longer sell worn but once treated with a natural rubber, which gives it a wrinkled appearance, become the fastener of a jacket.

Thus playing with the concept of loss of recognition, or the detachment from a conventional function in favor of a totally new.

And it is with this last project that my portfolio begins, so after this brief mention I can only wish you a good vision.
