Mi chiamo Giada Zanotti e sono al terzo anno del corso di Fashion Design presso l’Accademia della Moda IUAD di Milano.
La moda è sempre stata la mia strada, fin da piccola non ho mai vacillato su quale sarebbe stato il mio futuro. Durante i miei anni di formazione ho cercato di assorbire tutto ciò che potevo, sperimentando e spingendomi sempre oltre, con ogni collezione e con questa non ho voluto fare eccezioni.
“Malleus Maleficarum”, il martello delle streghe: il trattato pubblicato nel 1487 allo scopo di reprimere ogni forma di eresia.
Sono passati secoli, ormai, da che, con il pretesto più futile, si iniziava una caccia folle a donne prive di colpa. Erano tempi diversi ma non basta questo a cancellare un passato così ingiusto. Le Donne sono state le prime vittime di ogni epoca, merce e garanzie prima ancora di essere persone.

Leggere e studiare quanto, nonostante il passare del tempo, le donne in ogni società abbiano dovuto sopportare e affrontare tante ingiustizie, dolore e deumanizzazione, con la sola colpa di essere donne, mi ha sempre provocato rabbia investendomi emotivamente quasi come se mi toccassero personalmente.

Nella collezione, la strega diventa una retorica atta a rappresentare questa sofferenza che riecheggia ancora nel presente.
Dolore, carne lacerata, ustioni, sangue… La pelle di ogni donna nella storia è casa di questa sofferenza.
Attraverso manipolazioni tessili, lavorazioni a maglia e un grande utilizzo del colore rosso, con questo progetto vorrei riportare alla luce uno dei periodi più bui della storia.

Nel mio modo di lavorare ricopre un ruolo fondamentale toccare, manipolare i tessuti e trovare nuove lavorazioni da implementare. Per questi abiti in particolare, data la centralità del dolore, è stata importante la sua rappresentazione utilizzando il tessuto in modo da ricreare bruciature, vesciche e fiamme. Le lavorazioni a maglia (sia a mano che con la macchina), a cui mi sono appassionata sempre di più negli anni, derivano da insegnamenti di altre donne della mia vita e fanno ormai parte del mio DNA. Sperimentare mi permette di non rimanere mai ferma e questa collezione racchiude in sé ogni mia capacità professionale e creativa e diventa in ultimo ciò che è la moda per me: un mezzo potente per trasmettere emozioni e messaggi.

My name is Giada Zanotti ad I’m attending the last year in Fashion Design, at Accademia della Moda IUAD in Milan. Fashion has always been my vocation. I always knew what I wanted for my future. During my formative years I tried to absorb everything I could, experimenting with every stimulus, pushing further every time with each collection and this one is not an exception.

“Malleus Malleficarum”, the hammer of witches: It’s the name of a treaty published in 1487, with the purpose of repressing every form of heresy.
It has been centuries since then, when the most futile reason was enough to begin a wild hunt against not guilty women. Those were different times indeed but this isn’t enough to erase a past this cruel and unjust. Women have always been the first victims of every era, they were commodities and pawns before human beings.

Knowing that, in all times and societies, women had to face injustices, pain and dehumanization only because they are women, makes me feel angry in my soul as if they had been done to me.

In my collection the witch is a rhetoric element representing this suffering, which echoes until present days. Pain, torn flesh, burns, blood… The skin of every woman in the history of mankind is home of this sorrow. Through fabric/texile manipulations, knitting and a massive use of red color, I want to bring back to light one of history’s biggest stain.

In my creative process I need to touch, alter the fabrics, find new way to handle them and create new effects. For these looks in particular, pain representation is the central part of the work, so I used fabric in order to recreate burns, blisters and flames. Over the years I have become increasingly passionate about knitting and knitwear (both by hand and by machine); it comes from the teachings of other women in my life and it’s now part of my DNA. Experimenting allows me to move forward and this collection embodies all my professional and creative skills, becoming what fashion means to me: a powerful way to spread messages and emotions.
